In early 2014, I came across a video that changed my opinions on VR forever. I knew VR could one day be used for good, but this video informed me that it already was. An empathy machine, a device that would literally allow you to walk a mile(okay, a few steps) in another's shoes.
I was a huge fan of the work from the moment I saw it. I followed along with updates and hoped that one day, I'd be able to experience it.
Luckily, fate knocked on my doorstep when The Machine to Be Another came to Seattle for the Twist 360 LGBTQ Film Festival. The same cool app I was fanboying about a couple of years ago has now given me the chance to help set up the Machine and run it for people all weekend. And I'm practically starstruck. Sure, it still uses DK2's and an old .4 OVR SDK for the app. Yeah, it's a mono passthrough camera. But it's the freaking MACHINE TO BE ANOTHER. It's legendary, and I'm honored to help write the next passage of this legend.
